Early Life and Career
Michael Jeffrey Jordan was born on February 17, 1963, in Brooklyn, New York. He moved to Wilmington, North Carolina, at a young age and attended Emsley A. Laney High School. Jordan was a standout basketball player in high school, leading Laney to three state championships.
In 1981, Jordan accepted a scholarship to play basketball at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He played for the Tar Heels for three seasons, leading them to a national championship in 1982. Jordan was named ACC Player of the Year in 1983 and 1984.
