On Thursday, Lawrence County Sheriff Benjaman "BJ" Hampton was taken into custody and charged with murder in connection with the fatal shooting of Circuit Judge William "Eddie" Sammons in Kentucky. Commonwealth's Attorney Brent Turner has confirmed the arrest. The shooting occurred on Thursday morning at the Lawrence County Courthouse in Louisa, Kentucky. According to Turner, Hampton was scheduled to appear before Judge Sammons for a bond hearing. Turner stated that Hampton was taken into custody without incident. He is currently being held in the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center.
